  • Abstract:
Purpose of the qualitative transcendental phenomenological study was to explore lived Intention-To-Leave (ITL) experienced in Houston, Texas by Pipeline Engineering Personnel (PEP) and to describe the situations based on the common essences and meanings the individuals derived from the encounters. Qualitative Transcendental Phenomenological Research (TPR) approach was used to explore and to describe the lived ITL experiences using perceptions of the PEP about the encounters. Research question is, what is the ITL experience of PEP working in PE environments in Houston, Texas? Study was used to describe ITL experiences narrated during semi-structured interviews of 12 PEP who were selected through purposive sampling. 12 individual textural-structural descriptions and overarch themes of the percepts were used to described the 12 ITL experiences. Finding of the study is that each ITL experience is a composite of actions that consists of employment search, acceptance of more beneficial job, voluntary resignation, and relocation of the service. Quality of the ITL reflects nature of the work environment and the appropriateness of personality of the PEP to the context of the experience. The finding signifies that the encounters are personal and contextual, and that each ITL has unique meaning, which only the respective perceiver understood. Finding of the study may be used by leaders to establish the phases of the PEP turnover intention, to know components of the ITL, and to enhance employee retention strategies. Finding would be a guide for recruiters of PEP who want to identify employees who are more prone to experience ITL.
